Antarctica is located in the Southern Hemisphere at the bottom of the World. Antarctica is mountainous and has an average elevation of 2,300 metres making it the highest continent on Earth. Antarctica consists of a total area of about 14,000,000 square kilometers Both the geographic and magnetic south poles are located on the continent of Antarctica. Antarctica ClimateThe average annual temperature in the interior is a frigid -57°C, with a mean summer temperature of -40°C and an average winter temperature of -68°C . In the coastal areas, the mean summer temperature is 0°C . Antarctica has continuous daylight from mid-September to mid-March and six months of continuous darkness from mid-March to mid-September. During the daylight months, the continent receives more solar radiation than equatorial regions. |
